Fallout From Harvard Research Scandal Could Affect Hundreds of Chinese Medical Studies

Hundreds of studies by Chinese academics may need to be re-evaluated after a former Harvard researcher was found to have falsified data.

Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital called for retractions of 31 papers by former researcher Dr. Piero Anversa due to fabricated or falsified data, the institutions announced last Monday. Most of these problematic papers focused on so-called cardiac stem cells.

China has been especially active in this field, and it is presumed that some 300 Chinese cardiac stem cell studies used misleading findings from some of Dr. Anversa’s work in their own investigations, Caixin reported.
