- Inner Mongolia Admits Falsifying Data
Authorities of northern China’s Inner Mongolia region admitted that some local officials have inflated economic data and invested in infrastructure with excessive borrowing, the official Xinhua News Agency reported.
National auditors found Inner Mongolia exaggerated its 2016 fiscal revenue by 26.3%, or 53 billion yuan ($8 billion), and inflated the region’s industries output by 40% or 290 billion yuan.
In January, the governor of the northeastern province of Liaoning admitted that city and county officials in the region had falsified fiscal revenue and other data from 2011 to 2014.
