- China University Sets Up New Institutions Linking AI and Law
China’s prestigious Southwest University of Political Science & Law (SUPSL) set up a new college and a research center to engage in studies on the legal implications of artificial intelligence and the new technology's impact on the legal profession.
The Chongqing-based university is the second Chinese university following the Renmin University in Beijing to set up a new discipline of AI-related law studies, amid expanding application of AI technology in people’s everyday life.
Fu Zitang, president of SUPSL, said the growing prevalence of AI is posing challenges to traditional ethics and law studies, and will require revisions in the existing legal framework to adapt to the changes brought about by the new technology.
