- Tencent Secures China Rights of Video Game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds
Tencent announced Wednesday that it has become the exclusive distrbutor of the popular survival shooter PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG).
PUBG is a Hunger Games-style survival game in which 100 players parachute into a map and compete for weapons and other items. Launched in March this year, it has sold more than 20 million copies and was PC Game of the Year at 2017 Golden Joystick Awards.
Prior to the deal that will soon introduce PUBG to China, Tencent's major gaming rival NetEase launched a similar survival shooter earlier this month, which became the most popular free app on Apple's App Store within two days.
