- Biopharm Giant Boehringer Ingelheim Opens Shanghai Plant
German biopharmaceutical multinational Boehringer Ingelheim announced on Tuesday that it has opened a €70 million (535.7 million yuan) commercial production site in Shanghai.
It is the first biopharmaceutical facility established by a multinational manufacturer in China employing cell technology.
It is also one of 10 pilot programs in 10 Chinese cities for the so-called Marketing Authorization Holder system, which will allow authorized manufacturers to produce medicines for smaller companies or research institutions.
The new contract manufacturing platform is expected to help multinational companies to enter the Chinese market, and Chinese partners can also speed up their entry to European and U.S. markets, Luo Jiali, General Manager of Boehringer Ingelheim Biopharmaceuticals (China) Co. Ltd., told the media.
